Pregnancy Health Checks in Spain
Pregnancy health checks in Spain cover pre-pregnancy checks as well as regular healthy checks throughout your pregnancy.
A pre-pregnancy health check may involve various checks to ensure your body is well equipped to deal with a pregnancy. For example; you may have a blood test to check for anaemia or other blood related conditions such as thalassaemia, depending on your ethnic background. Your blood pressure may also be checked as women with higher blood pressure may be more susceptible to pre-eclampsia.
Pre-pregnancy Smear Test Spain: If you have a smear test due you may want to have that before conceiving as smear tests are not usually carried out on pregnant women nor for up to 6 months after giving birth. In the UK, If you have had any abnormalities in previous smear tests you may have been told you need to have yearly smear tests rather than every 3 years and in many parts of Spain, an annual smear test is the norm but could be between every 1-5 years. In Spanish the smear test is known as "La Citología Vaginal" or also as; "Prueba de papanicolau".
Other pregnancy health checks can form part of ongoing antenatal checks. For example, there are additional pregnancy scans that you may wish to pay for in addition to the regular pregnancy health checks done by your doctor or gynecologist such as the Early Dating Scan offered by some clinics to confirm pregnancy and the number of foetuses you are carrying.
