Baby Sign Language

Communicating with your baby via baby sign language is not just something that is limited to the deaf community.

Signing with your baby before they can speak can help you to learn their wants and pains before they are able to vocalise them. It can also help strengthen the baby bond you have with your little one as it will help you better understand what your baby is trying to tell you and therefore reduce the confusion at not knowing what your baby is after.

Baby Signing

Baby Signing is an increasingly popular way of communicating with your baby before they learn to speak.

Using simple hand gestures you and your baby can learn a new way to communicate by associating sounds and hand gestures with objects or feelings. Without even thinking about it we have all probably used baby signing to some degree with our child and I have a friend who sings "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" with her daughter whilst they both look up to the sky opening and shutting their hands to signal the twinkling stars. Sing-a-long tunes such as "The Wheels On The Bus" is another example of making use of the same basics of baby sign language.

Baby sign language can be used in the months before your baby starts to pick up words and can encourage them to develop their language and communication skills.

Signing in Spanish?

Using baby sign language with your child doesn't have to be restricted to your native language. If you live in Spain you can also use certain signs in connection with Spanish objects as well. If both parents are English or any other nationality but you live in Spain and plan on having your baby or bringing up your young child in Spain, using baby sign language for Spanish words can help integrate a second language, and in this case Spanish, to your child at a young age.
