27 weeks pregnant

I’m now 27 weeks pregnant, it has all gone way too fast! I am two thirds of the way through and just can’t wait to find out the sex of baby no.2.

I have stocked up on raspberry leaf tea which I will start around 30/32 weeks. I drank raspberry leaf tea around the same time with my first and although it doesn’t bring labour on it definitely helps with the second stage of labour! I was in labour for a total of 6 hrs and pushed for 20 mins. At the time it felt like a lifetime, it felt like it was never going to end. If I knew it was going to be that quick I would never of had an epidural! Thanks to the lovely epidural I suffered really bad backache for around 6 months after delivery. And now with the second pregnancy I get backache on and off. I don’t think I will have an epidural second time round unless it’s really necessary. I’ve already warned my husband if I ask for it don’t let me have it (when you’re in pain you will do anything to make it stop!) If I’m dilating well, don’t let me have it!

I definitely want to go down the water birth route this time. I was adamant first time round I was going to do it but at the time I was concentrating on nothing else but the pain. I’m not doing that this time, looking back now what I needed was someone to get my attention and put me straight. I’ve asked hubby to be more assertive with me and his response was “If you’re in pain you can do what you want, what am I supposed to do!?”)

I know what’s to come this time and I want to be more in control this time! I say all this but you just can’t plan it it’s too much of an unpredictable situation. But I’m sure we’ll both be fine and get through it as quickly as we possibly can.

Baby Massage & Essential Oils

What better way to bond with your baby than with a spot of baby massage!

Baby Massage has been around for a while now but it’s not every day you stumble across baby massage classes complete with a whole host of information about using essential oils on your baby as the My Baby Spain team have done this week!

Michelle Julian is an independent distributor of Young Living essential oils in Spain (michellejulianyoungliving@gmail.com // 952 929 860 or 695 845 419) and has been enlightening us on baby massage classes available here in Spain, massage techniques as well as the most appropriate essential oils to use to aid the bonding benefits of baby massage.

Benefits of Baby Massage

The relaxing and calm-inducing benefits that you would gain from a massage are generally the same benefits your baby can benefit from and more!

Infant Massage can:

* Strengthen a strong bond of love and trust between a parent and their child
* Improve general well-being
* Help with colic & solve constipation
* Encourages baby’s development
* Helps aid better and longer sleep
* Enhances neurological development
* Improves body’s ability to digest all good nutrients

Your baby will also benefit from the sense of security and protection when in your hands and it will also encourage social development through touch and communication.

How Do Essential Oils Help Baby Massage?

Specially formulated blends of essential oils can not only solve nagging stomach and digestive problems but they can also stimulate physical development or improve immune functioning. And it’s not just for baby massage that essential oils can help, using a special oil diffuser around the home and during pregnancy and labour can also help the mother to be.

We think the Everyday Oils Collection by Young Living Essential Oils makes for a great investment as it works out more financially viable to purchase a few oils as a set and they are so versatile they can be used all over the house for you, your baby and your whole family. You can contact Michelle direct to find out more about ordering diffusers and oils in Spain.

Schools & Education in Spain e-book

Knowing how the education system works in Spain maybe one of the most important things you need to find out about before choosing whether or not to educate your children in Spain as well as how to go about it.

What Do I Need To Know About the Spanish School System?

Understanding the similarities and differences between the Spanish and the UK education systems as well as knowing how best to prepare your child for Spanish school can go a long way to eliminating doubts about the unknown and can help you to ensure a happy and swift settling in period for your child, no matter what the age they enter the Spanish school system.

Understanding the Spanish School System

Last week I read the Schools & Education in Spain e-book put together by Susan Pedalino of the Eye on Spain team.

As a fully comprehensive guide that has been put together using first hand experience of the schooling system in Spain, the Eye on Spain Schools & Education e-book is invaluable for any ex-pat parents in Spain as well as any parents-to-be who may be wondering about how the Spanish education system works.

Before reading the Eye on Spain e-book I admit to knowing slim to nothing about the public school system in Spain. In the UK it can sometimes all be about the area you live in, whether you go to church or not and whether you can afford private education or not, but Susan manages to untangle the system so that it’s much easier to know what you can expect for your child in Spain.

As a mother of twins, Susan explains how the UK and Spanish systems differ in the syllabus they follow, school costs, how to get involved as parents, the pastoral care your child can expect and the important issue of bilingualism and integration. She also gives valuable tips on how to complement the Spanish school system to ensure your English child doesn’t lose out in any way and advice on how to grapple with what may appear to be a Spanish “mañana” attitude to things such as date of the first day of term!

Will the ebook be useful for me?

The Schools & Education ebook is perfect for any parents with a child of school age, irrespective of their current level of Spanish, age or even the school year they are in and for 15 € it’s a sound investment.
